In 1870, Julia Ward Howe, a poet who wrote "Battle Hymn of the Republic" worked to establish a mothers peace day and dedicated this celebration to the death of the War. Later in 1907, Anna Jarwis of Philadelphia began the campaign to get official recognition of Mothers Day and in 1914,President Woodrow Wilson announced it a national Holiday as a " Public expression of our Love and Affection to our Mothers".
